Digital Ruler
Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Digital Ruler handles information when you use the app on iPhone, iPad or Android devices. It applies to the app distributed on the Apple App Store and on Google Play.
1. Introduction
Digital Ruler (referred to as “the App”, “we”, “us” or “our”) is a measurement utility that turns your phone or tablet screen into a ruler for measuring the length or the length and width of everyday objects.
We built the App so that measuring does not require giving up your privacy. There is no sign-in, no profile and no cloud account. This Policy describes what information the App handles, where it is kept, and the choices available to you. If you do not agree with this Policy, please discontinue use of the App.
2. Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide
None. The App does not require registration, an account, an email address, a phone number or any other personal details. You can use every measuring feature without telling us who you are.
2.2 Information collected automatically
None. The App does not include analytics tools, advertising SDKs, crash-reporting services, attribution or tracking technologies. We do not collect identifiers such as the Advertising Identifier (IDFA) or the Android Advertising ID, and we do not track your activity across other apps, websites or services.
2.3 Measurement data (stored on your device only)
To deliver its core function, the App creates and stores the following information locally on your device:
- Measurement readings (length, and width in 2D mode), the unit used and the mode used;
- Timestamps of readings you lock or save;
- Your measurement history, up to twenty records on the free plan and unlimited records with the Pro upgrade;
- Preferences such as the default unit (centimetres or inches), language, appearance and the calibration ratio used to match the scale to your screen.
This data is written to the App’s private local storage on your device. It is never transmitted to us, and we have no ability to read it.
2.4 Device permissions
The App requests only the permissions it needs for the features you choose to use:
- Photos / Media library (write access). Used solely when you tap “Save to Photos” to export a measurement result image to your own photo library. You can deny this permission and continue using all measuring features; the exported image simply will not be saved.
- Camera, microphone, location, contacts and calendar. Not used. The App does not request or access them.
Permissions can be changed at any time in your device’s system settings.
2.5 Purchase information
In-app purchases are processed entirely by the Apple App Store (StoreKit) or by Google Play Billing, depending on where you installed the App. We do not collect or store your name, address, card number or any payment credentials. We receive only a limited confirmation from the store — typically the purchased product identifier and its entitlement status — which the App uses to enable Pro features on your device.
3. How We Use Information
Because all data stays on your device, the App uses it only to:
- Display and calculate measurements on screen;
- Apply your calibration so the scale matches your device;
- Keep a measurement history you can revisit, export or delete;
- Remember your preferences between sessions;
- Verify purchase entitlement and restore previous purchases.
We do not use any information for advertising, marketing profiling, behavioural analysis, automated decision-making or for any purpose unrelated to the App’s functionality.
4. Data Storage, Retention and Security
All measurement data and settings are stored inside the App’s private storage area on your device and are protected by the security features of your operating system, including device encryption and your device passcode, Face ID or fingerprint lock. You are responsible for keeping your device secure.
We retain nothing on our side, so retention is controlled entirely by you:
- Measurement records remain on your device until you delete them;
- You can remove individual records or clear the entire history from Settings › History › Clear All;
- Uninstalling the App permanently removes all locally stored measurements, preferences and calibration data;
- If you back up your device through Apple’s or Google’s backup services, any App data included in that backup is handled under that provider’s own privacy terms, not by us.
While we apply reasonable safeguards, no method of storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security of data held on your device.
5. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, rent, trade, or share your personal information with third parties. We do not disclose measurement data to advertising networks, data brokers or any other company.
Data leaves your device only in the following situations, all initiated by you:
- When you export a result image to your Photos library;
- When you use the system share sheet to send a measurement to an app or contact of your choosing;
- When your device’s operating system performs a backup you have enabled.
We may also disclose information if we are legally required to do so by a valid court order, subpoena or applicable law, or where disclosure is necessary to protect our rights, your safety or the safety of others. Because we hold no data, in most cases we would have nothing to produce.
6. Third-Party Services
The App contains no third-party analytics, advertising, social or attribution SDKs. The only third parties involved are the distribution and payment platforms:
- Apple (App Store and StoreKit in-app purchase) for iOS, iPadOS and macOS versions;
- Google (Google Play and Google Play Billing) for Android versions.
These companies may collect data such as purchase and usage information in accordance with their own privacy policies, which are independent of this Policy. We encourage you to review the Apple Privacy Policy and the Google Privacy Policy for details on how they handle data.
7. In-App Purchases and Payments
Digital Ruler offers an optional one-time Pro upgrade (a non-consumable in-app purchase) that permanently unlocks additional calibration objects, unlimited measurement history and advanced export options. There is no subscription: the purchase is charged once and does not renew. The free version of the App remains available and functional without any purchase.
- The price of the Pro upgrade is displayed in the App before you confirm a purchase, in your local currency, and is charged once only.
- Payment is charged to your Apple ID account or Google Play account at confirmation of purchase.
- Because this is a one-time purchase, there is no auto-renewal and nothing to cancel. You keep access to the Pro features on the Apple ID or Google account used for the purchase, permanently.
- Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under their own policies, except where applicable law provides otherwise. On Apple devices you can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
- You can restore a previous purchase at no cost through the “Restore” option in the App (for example after reinstalling the App or switching to a new device with the same account).
8. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under laws such as the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act as amended by the CPRA, or similar legislation — including the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information, and the right not to be discriminated against for exercising those rights.
We do not sell or share personal information, and we do not process personal information on any server. As a result, we hold no copy of your measurement data and cannot retrieve, export or delete it on your behalf. All such data can be accessed and removed directly by you inside the App (see Section 4) or by uninstalling it. If you believe we hold any information about you, contact us and we will respond within a reasonable period and within the time limits required by applicable law.
9. Children’s Privacy
The App is a general-purpose measurement tool and is not directed to children. It is not intended for children under the age of 13 in the United States, or under 16 in the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. The App contains no advertising, no behavioural tracking and no social features.
If you are a parent or guardian and believe that a child has provided personal information through the App, please contact us at the address below. Because no data is transmitted to us, removing the App from the device removes all associated data.
10. International Users and Data Transfers
Digital Ruler can be used worldwide. Because all data is processed and stored locally on your device and is never uploaded to servers operated by us, no cross-border transfer of your measurement data takes place.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may revise this Privacy Policy to reflect changes in the App, in our practices, or in applicable legal requirements. When we do, the revised version will be published at this same web address. If a change materially affects how your information is handled, we will provide prominent notice, for example within the App. Your continued use of the App after a revision means you accept the updated Policy, so we encourage you to review this page periodically.
